I miss text games (including ones with graphics, and the Humongous series as well). I have a kid with some sensory processing issues. He gets easily frustrated by reflex driven games. Aside from the fact that death is way too easy in most of the classic text games, I think he would enjoy it.
I miss text games as well. There was just something so satisfying about them. I’ve played Adventureland XL and made it into the new areas. Lemme tell you it’s just as challenging and exciting to get stuck trying to solve these new puzzles as it was when I was 7 or 8 and playing on my Vic-20.
Felt the need to revisit this. We're playing Monkey Island - in addition to SPD, he's also Aspergers. Some of the puzzles resulted in frustration. Still learning when frustration is too much and when it's a growth experience, but MI gets a little dark toward the end (Dad fail, I'd never played this one. Navigator head, cannibals, the underground maze.... whups), and I think that might've had something to do with it.
ASMR Adventure isn't really a category, but it needs to be. Self paced, long play exploration. Myst seems kinda like that but I never played far, and it's a little too hard for him. We have appreciated the depth of MI compared to Spy Fox, but the macabre and difficulty is just a bit much. frustration.
If you have questions or comments for Scott, he is doing an AMA today (11/24) on Hacker News! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29330015

Great interview and opportunity.
